Making a Better Community
The SouthEastern Ohio Joint Solid Waste Management District is a collaborative effort between six counties in southeastern Ohio, including Guernsey, Monroe, Morgan, Muskingum, Noble, and Washington counties. Our mission is to provide a comprehensive waste management system that protects the environment, promotes public health, and supports economic development in our region.
We understand that solid waste management is a critical issue facing our community, as the average residence produces approximately 5.4 pounds of solid waste per day for each person living in the home. To address this challenge, we offer a range of services designed to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills and promote recycling.
Services
Our district provides a variety of services to residents and businesses in our region, including:
- Recycling programs for common recyclables such as paper, plastic, glass, and metal
- Special collections for hazardous waste, electronics, and household appliances
- Programs for the recovery of scrap tires and other special waste materials
- Education and outreach programs to promote good waste management practices
Our district also partners with private sector and governmental contractors to provide access to recycling facilities and waste management services. We work closely with municipalities and community groups to develop and implement effective waste management strategies that meet the unique needs of our region.
Recycling and Special Collections
We offer a range of recycling and special collections programs to make it easy for residents and businesses to participate in our waste management efforts. Our recycling programs accept a variety of materials, including cardboard, paperboard, newspaper, magazines, catalogs, office paper, junk mail, #1 and #2 plastics, aluminum, steel, and tin cans, and clear, brown, and green glass.
We also offer special collections for hazardous waste, electronics, and household appliances. These programs allow residents and businesses to dispose of these materials in an environmentally responsible manner and help reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills.
In addition to our recycling and special collections programs, we also provide education and outreach programs to promote good waste management practices. These programs include workshops, educational materials, and community events designed to raise awareness about the importance of recycling and proper waste disposal.
Our Goals
Our goals are focused on reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills, promoting recycling and proper waste disposal, and protecting the environment and public health. We work closely with our partners and stakeholders to develop and implement effective strategies that meet the unique needs of our region.
